Motorway closure causing major delays after crash involving pedestrian

A police appeal has been issued following a fatal collision which has left a Kent motorway closed.
Emergency services were called shortly after 8pm on Wednesday 20 November 2024, to a collision involving a pedestrian and a number of vehicles on the coastbound carriageway of the M2 motorway, between junctions 5 and 6.
A man in his 50s was died at the scene, and officers say his next of kin has been informed.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “An investigation into the circumstances is underway.
“Anyone who saw what happened, including seeing the pedestrian or vehicles prior to the incident, or who may have dashcam footage, should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Call on 01622 798538 quoting reference XX/SL/111/24. Alternatively email [email protected].
“Investigators would also like to speak to motorists who may have driven through the scene immediately after the incident, but before the arrival of emergency services.”
The coast-bound carriageway of the M2 remains closed.
There were long delays on the motorway this morning with traffic service INRIX reporting congestion to London-bound traffic at J6, for over a mile at around 6am.
